St. (the Righteous) Lot Church
The location was unknown before the Madaba map, and in 1983 it was discovered by [H. Donner EA. Knauf and] where the remains of a Byzantine church were found with two caves believed to have been inhabited by Lot, Abraham’s nephew, with his two daughters. The site is located in the Ghor el-Safi area, not far from the biblical “Sogar.” This church is dedicated to Saint (El-Bar) Lot.
