Jericho is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is mentioned several times in the Bible, and by many Jews, Christians, and Muslims at varying times. During the Byzantine period, the city center was the Tell el-Sultan area. Jericho appears on the map of Madaba as a medium-sized city, with walls and four towers to protect it, along with two main doors. It has palm trees, evidence of its abundant water, and three churches appear.
