Thauatha / Tabatha
Thauatha or Tabatha “Thabatha”, is located at Khirbet Umm al-Tut, which is located south of Wadi Gaza and about 2.5 km away. It is the birthplace of Saint Hilarion (271 – 291) AD. He died in Cyprus and is considered the founder of monasticism in the Palestinian desert. He met Saint Anthony (251 – 356) AD, who is considered the founder of monasticism in the Egyptian desert. Saint Jerome (Ironimus) wrote about the life of Saint Hilarion.
