The name “Beit Abra” ” is of Aramaic origin and means place of transit. It is located west of the Jordan River, where Saint John the Baptist first baptized. This was confirmed by Origen (Origen) when he wrote that Jesus Christ was baptized in the Jordan River in the “House of Abra” west of the river. This was also supported by Bishop Eusebius and Saint Jerome (Ironimus).

Although Origen admitted that most biblical manuscripts of his time read the Hebrew name ἐν Βηθανία (Pythani), he asserted, by not wandering around the Jordan River area, that he had found no place named Pythani, so he founded the place under the name “Beit Abra” (Aramaic name), taking into account that Saint John the Baptist was baptized in the Jordan River near that area, It is the place where Jesus Christ was baptized and established the Aramaic name, not the Hebrew name. This statement was also confirmed by Bishop Eusebius and Saint Jerome (Ironimus), because we were well versed in the logic, culture and language of the time.
