It is mentioned in the Bible several times, and it is supposed to be near Bethlehem on the road between Jerusalem and Bethlehem. Recently, in 1921 AD, a colony was built called Ramat Rachel, which was the site of a Byzantine town with the remains of a monastery and a church known as “Kathisma Church,” meaning “Church of the Seat.” The Virgin Mary rested there while coming to Bethlehem to subscribe before the birth of Jesus Christ (this church was built around 450 AD), and it did not appear on the map of Madaba.

Eusebius mentioned that Rachel’s tomb was first near Bethlehem on the Bethlehem Road, and later the tomb was moved to Ramah, north of Jerusalem, within the land of the tribe of Benjamin (147:28 – 148:2)
