Salem, mentioned by Bishops Eusebius, Procopius of Gaza, and Nun Etheria (chapter. 13:3-14:3) The site appears on the Madaba archaeological map under the name “Salomias”, and is also mentioned in the Bible under the name “Salem”. The site is located about 12 km south of Beisan.

Salem’s name was recently discovered by “Van de Velde” (Sir and Friend. 2345) At a site exactly in accordance with what Bishop Eusebius had said, that is, six English miles south of Beisan and two miles west of the Jordan River on the northern base of the hill of a ruined site called Tell al-Raqqa, and not far from the place indicated by Bishop Eusebius, Van de Velde confirmed that the site of Salem met the conditions given in the name of Ainun (the springs), as the place contained an abundance of water.
