It is mentioned in the Bible several times and also in many Greek, Latin, Hebrew and Arabic manuscripts. During the Byzantine period, Zoar was a medium-sized administrative city and the center of a Christian diocese. The map shows the presence of two churches with red roofs. Zoar was also known under the name “Bela” in the Bible.
